Red Meat Industry Development Officer

The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) is an active and powerful advocacy organisation dedicated to the best interests of farmers and making a difference to agricultural communities in Tasmania.

The Role:

The Red Meat Industry Development Officer (IDO) project will be delivered by the TFGA working in collaboration with DPIPWE operating under a joint industry/government governance model.

The IDO will help set and implement actions from the Tasmanian Red Meat Industry Strategic Plan and lead a range of initiatives throughout the supply chain for the red meat industries.

The IDO will be responsible for all associated project communications, applicant engagement, application review, working with a red meat steering committee and all other tasks necessary to deliver this three-year project.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with red meat partners to translate the Tasmanian Red Meat Industry Strategic Plan into an Operational Plan that sets achievable targets and timelines;
  • Prioritise actions within the Operational Plan and support implementation;
  • Convene regular partner meetings across industry, government and research bodies to facilitate delivery of the Operational Plan and address impediments to industry grohttps://tfga.com.au/office/entries/pages/5994-work-with-us#wth;
  • Prioritise and make recommendations for expenditure by Government of the remainder of the $1 million over four years (from 2018-19) red meat budget commitment;
  • Coordinate communications, represent the red meat industry and act as a central industry spokesperson, including the development of a positive communications strategy and a crisis management plan for any unfavourable activism events;
  • Facilitate producer involvement in other relevant initiatives, including the extension phase of the Pastures and Livestock Productivity Project; and
  • Review and report progress to industry and other stakeholders.
