Centre for excellence a plus for agriculture

16 February 2018

The announcement today that the Liberal Party will invest $5 million to establish an agricultural centre of excellence in the State’s North West has been welcomed by Tasmania’s peak farming organisation.

Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) CEO Peter Skillern said that this, on the back of yesterday’s announcement of $16 million for school farms, showed a serious commitment to improving skills in the agricultural sector.

“These announcements come on the back of the Government-funded Agriskills Project, which established the foundation for a greater understanding of the educational needs in the sector,’’ Mr Skillern said.

“Minister Rockliff has continually demonstrated an understanding and commitment to the importance of education in this State, particularly in the context of agriculture. He is to be warmly congratulated for his personal commitment.”
