Code of Practice an important first step for dairy

The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association Dairy Council has welcomed the launch of the Code of Practice for Contractual Arrangements as an important first step for the dairy industry.

Dairy Council President Andrew Lester said that the Code should help improve contracting arrangements between farmers and processors and balance risk along the supply chain.

“We consider it to be an important baseline – a working document that people can follow and that can be improved on when the need arises,’’ Mr Lester said.

“It is a line in the sand for fair and equitable contracts, and should give the industry confidence that, if a processor is following the code, farmers will be treated with respect and fairness.”
