Lacklustre budget for Tasmanian agriculture

27 May 2016

Tasmania’s peak farming organisation has acknowledged that the budget announced yesterday by Treasurer Peter Gutwein reflects the fiscal reality that the State finds itself in.

“While recognising that the budget shows appropriate fiscal constraint; and the delivery of a surplus is to be commended; positive allocations for agriculture were scarce, with the exception of the welcome announcement of an extra $2 million funding for biosecurity,’’ TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said.

“The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association will be looking to future budgets to better reflect the significant economic contribution that agriculture makes to the economy of Tasmania.”
