The TFGA welcomes the announcement today by the Hon Guy Barnett Minister for Agriculture on changes to managing wild deer in Tasmania the announcement today is an excellent first step in dealing with this introduced species.
''The announcement of a five-year crop protection permit for antlerless deer and the move to make quotas and tags no longer a requirement is a positive move in deregulation' said Peter Skillern, TFGA CEO.
The move to extend the hunting season for antlerless deer from February to October along with regulated deer hunting in reserves is a positive step forward.
The TFGA notes the Government will monitor the implementation of these new measures and we will be seeking further amendments in the future.
