Bobby calf Ear Tags

A reminder for farmers sending calves direct to slaughter (abattoir) they should be using bobby calf tags (slaughter tags).  If on selling calves, via saleyards or farm to farm, NLIS ear tags must be used, not bobby calf tags.

TFGA has lobbied the State Government to maintain the continued access for the use of bobby calf tags for  calves going direct to slaughter. This equates to at least $100,000 direct saving to the industry annually.

Also, bobby calves should only be sold farm to farm to those who have an NLIS number (and PIC number). All calves/cattle movements are to be recorded on the NLIS database. This means that farm to farm movements will have to be recorded on the NLIS Database. This is the responsibility of the receiver of the calves/cattle.
