Feedback sought on Dairy mandatory code

65

Recently the Federal Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources announced the government was commencing formal consultation on a mandatory code of conduct for the dairy industry.

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources is seeking feedback from your organisation and your members about the issues that may be addressed in a mandatory code more broadly as well as eight specific issues:

  • exclusive supply clauses
  • retrospective and prospective pricing step-downs
  • cooling off periods
  • contract termination
  • dispute resolution
  • penalty regimes
  • costs generated by a mandatory code
  • potential exemptions.

Members can access the consultation documentation via Overview - Dairy code of conduct, A farmers guide - Dairy code of conduct, Issues paper - Dairy code of conduct.

Representatives from the department will be holding face-to-face meetings in each dairy region during this process. Details relating to these meetings will be released in due course.
