Rural Relief Fund

What is it? How can it help you?

In the unfortunate instance when disasters like drought, bushfire and flood occur the need for assistance is immediate. With human and animal welfare a priority, the Rural Relief Fund through the provision of emergency grants can act quickly to support those most affected.

Funds are generously donated by the Tasmania State Government and corporate and individual sponsors.


The support available includes:

  • Rural Relief Fund Grant - Funds up to $2,500
  • Rural Relief Fund Drought Assistance - initial funding of $1,500 with possibility of further $5,000 of funding

To be eligible, you must:

  • Has a right or interest in land or assets used for the purposes of primary production, small business or fisheries*
  • Contributes a significant part (greater than 51%) of your labour and capital to the enterprise
  • Is registered with the Australian Taxation Office and have an ABN thus indicating you run a small business, farming or fishing enterprise
  • Is still conducting this enterprise and/or intend to continue/resume in the future,
  • Suffering hardship at the present time


*Eligible applicants include individuals, partnership, trust or company operating commercially who are involved in any of the following:

  • Nursery and floriculture production
  • Mushroom and vegetable growing
  • Fruit and tree nut growing
  • Grain, sheep and beef cattle farming
  • Other crop growing
  • Dairy cattle farming
  • Poultry farming
  • Deer farming
  • Other livestock farming
  • Services to agriculture
  • Hunting and trapping
  • Commercial fishing (marine, aquaculture and mariculture) and/or
  • Small business services in regional/rural Tasmania
