Kids to Farms supported primary school educators to engage and excite children in Food and Fibre Production Learning.
“Kids to Farms” was funded by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The program offered classroom resources, excursion sites, professional development for teachers, and even online video‐calls with farmers. The project was successful through the dedicated Education Officer in collaboration with the Hagley Farm School Agricultural Learning Centre staff and management has also enabled the creation of a new tailor made hands on day for primary students to explore modern agriculture in a full day of experiential learning.
Feedback and independent evaluation on the project found that it was clear that students value the learning and exposure to new things that Kids to Farms excursion offer.
Kids to Farms has supported primary school teachers to find resources that can be readily utilised in the classroom and encouraged teachers that do not usually teach this area to include food and fibre in their classroom.
Whilst this project has now closed, TFGA is seeking funding to ensure these beneficial outcomes continue.
